Lesson from loss

Burnout had been a distant concern, overshadowed by my passion for work and social impact. But everything shifted in 2013 when I moved to Sweden and received devastating news: my grandmother was dying. Her passing marked the start of a profound journey through grief and burnout.

Returning to Melbourne, I found myself grappling with the loss of a pillar of love and stability. My grandmother's home had always been a refuge, a place of comfort amidst life's chaos. Now, that sanctuary was gone, and I felt adrift.

The challenge of balancing my Master’s studies in Sweden while dealing with this personal loss was overwhelming. The statistics course, in particular, seemed insurmountable. Yet, with the support of friends and the power of my grandmother’s prayers, I managed to pass the exam with high distinction.

This period of intense grief taught me the importance of community and kindness. Even small acts of support can be a lifeline during the darkest times. As I navigated through this difficult period, I learned that resilience often comes through the compassion of others and the strength found in cherished memories.
